Pierre Attaingnant (1494-1552) brachte 1528 seinen ersten Musikdruck mit einem königlichen Privileg von
Francois I. heraus. Damit setzte er einen sehr hohen Standard und es dauerte nicht lange, bis er für die Qualität seiner Produkte berühmt war.

Der Druck von 1533 mit 27 Chansons (tatsächlich sind es 28, aber vielleicht war die Titelseite schon gedruckt und niemand wollte sie ändern) vereint die Werke von acht Komponisten, von denen Claudin de Sermisy am stärksten vertreten ist. Die anderen sind Guilliaume Le Heurteur, Pierre Passerau, Pierre Vermont, Jocotin, Johannes Lupi, Nicolaas Gombert und Pierre de Manchicourt. Sie nahmen modernste Dichtung und vertonten die Werke in einem neuen klaren und ideenreichen Stil.

Auf der Titelseite vermerkt Attaingant, welche Werke für Flöten geeignet sind (21 Stücke). Wir konzentrieren uns auf diese. Dies ist eine seltene Sammlung für frühe Flöte mit wunderbarer Musik. Zuvor war die Flöte ehr mit der Pfeife der Soldaten assoziiert. Hier findet sie im 4-stimmigen Satz zu einer eigenen zarten Stimme.
