Toru Takemitsu war einer der vielseitigsten japanischen Komponisten im 20. Jahrhundert. Viele kennen ihn durch die Film-Musiken, die er für Akira Kurosawa schrieb. Eines seiner schönsten Werke ist 'Towards the sea', inspiriert von Melvilles Roman 'Moby Dick' für tiefe Flöte und Gitarre. Er schrieb noch zahlreiche Werke für diese Lieblingsbesetzung, angeregt durch japanische, südamerikanische, aber auch durch Pop Musik und Lieder der Beatles. Astor Piazzolla war der Erfinder des Tango Nuevo und brachte ihn aus dem Tanzsaal aufs Konzert-Podium. Wir haben ein Dutzend seiner Tangos ausgewählt und spielen sie zusammen mit Werken von Heitor Villa-Lobos und anderen südamerikanischen Komponisten.
