15-eeuwse klaviermuziek van ten noorden en ten zuiden van de Alpen

Codex Faenza is een manuscript uit rond 1430 – 1440 en het behelst meestal virtuoze parafrasen van Italiaanse en Franse muziek uit de tweede helft van de 14e eeuw. Maar het bevat ook sommige vroege voorbeelden van alternatum-(orgel-)mis methoden.

De partituur verstrekt geen inlichting over het soort van muziekinstrument te bespelen. Maar het past perfect op harp of een klavierinstrument. Het is ook mogelijk om te twee luiten of een combinatie van tokkel- en strijkinstrumenten te spelen. Zelfs al waren er geen grote altviolen in die tijd in Italië om de ondertonen te spelen. Zo is het interessant de Faenza-versie gepaard aan het vocaal origineel uit te voeren.

Buxheimer Orgelboek is de enige en grootste bron van Zuid-Duitse klaviermuziek, die tussen 1450 en 1470 werd samengesteld. De muziekstukken zijn vaak intavolaties van moderne Franco-Vlaamse vocale muziek. In dit werk zijn er ook vele vroegere elementen die bijna een middeleeuwse klankwereld hebben van Duitse toondichters: improvisaties en intonaties op lang aangehouden noten op verschillende manieren.

Zonder twijfel is deze muziek geschreven voor toetsinstrumenten met een bereik van B tot f”, ideaal voor Gotisch orgel, clavicytherium of klavichord.

Dankzij al dit cultureel erfgoed kunnen wij uit twee verschillende concert programma’s kiezen:

instrumentaal op harp, klavichord, clavicytherium of orgel
met één zanger en instrumenten
met een vocaal ensemble van drie en instrumenten
