Toru Takemitsu tycks vara en av de mest mångkunniga japanska komponisterna på 1900-talet. Han är mest känd för sina musikstycken skrivna för filmen 'RAN' regisserad av Akira Kurosawa. Ett av Takemitsus bästa verk för flöjt och gitarr är 'Toward the Sea' som egentligen inspirerats av Melvilles roman 'Moby Dick'. Därutöver tonsatte han ytterligare kammarmusikstycken användande sina favoritinstrument, flöjt och gitarr, och därigenom återspeglades japanska och latin-amerikanska element samt popmusikens särdrag, konkret sett Beatles-låtar. Astor Piazzolla var inte bara uppfinnaren av Tango Nuevo men han importerade den från danslokaler och introducerade den på konsertscener. Vi har valt ut ett dussintal från hans tangoer vilka vi spelar tillsammans med verk av Heitor Villa-Lobos och andra sydamerikanska komponister.
