Höviska kärlekssånger och politisk poesi

Walther är den mest berömda av alla medeltida tyska poeter. Ingen annan kunde som han återge sina livshändelser i lyrik.

Vem var egentligen denna professionella vagabondpoet som medelålders slutade dikta höviska sånger för att på samma brinnande sätt engagera sig i politisk poesi?

Michael Dollendorf fick sin musikaliska utbildning på University of Michigan i Ann Arbor. Sedan dess har han uppträtt med många välkända ensembler som Les Arts Florissants i Paris, Smithsonian Chamber Players i Washington, D. C., och med Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra i San Francisco.

På Bonns universitet i Tyskland studerade han forngermanska språkvetenskap på tyska och på engelska institutionerna med Manfred Kaempfert, Christoph Cormeau, Monika Unzeitig och med Karl Reichl. Michael har genomfört vidsträckta forskningsstudier kring muntlig poesi och historieberättandets traditioner. På så sätt kan Michael Dollendorf framföra sina historieberättande program på fornhögtyska, medelhögtyska, gotiska, fornsaxiska, fornengelska, medelengelska och på frankoprovensalska.

Tyska hjältesånger, franska trubadursånger, tyska minnesång-repertoarerna av Walther von der Vogelweide, Neidhart von Reuental och Oswald von Wolkenstein är de grundläggande utgångspunkterna i Michaels yrkesverksamhet.

Han ackompanjerar sig själv och spelar harpa, psalterium, lyra, fidel samt flera typer av vevliror.
