Illustration from the Luttrell Psalter around 1330
This little hurdy-gurdy represents the easiest way to fill a space with sound and sing a song into it. The drones are tuned a fifth apart. The melodie string I tunes to the seventh above the higher drone. This is the same as the 3rd fiddle tuning given by Jerome de Moravia and the Symphonie can be used just like a fiddle.
My symphonie I play in most medieval programs. Harp and Fiddle are very active instruments and the even sound of the Symphonie helps to calm down emotionen again.
