Das Ensemble ist nach dem berühmten Codex Bologna Q16 benannt, der nicht-textierte Musik aus dem frühen 15. Jahrhundert enthät. In der Stammbesetzung sind wir eine Alta Capella in der frühen Form: zwei Pommern und eine Posaune. Diese Besetzung entspricht genau der Musik in der Handschrift: eine hohe Stimme für Alt Pommer in G, eine Tenor Stimme für einen Pommer in C und eine Contra Stimme die am besten auf eine Renaissance Posaune passt.

Alle drei Musiker sind Blockflötisten. Deshalb können wir auch auf leise Instrumente wechseln und müssen nicht die ganze Zeit laut (alta) spielen.

Das Repertoire reicht von mittelalterlicher Tanzmusik bis zum Hof der Tudors und zu den großen Sammlungen mit Tanz- und Zeremonialmusik von Holborne und Brade.

Für größere Besetzungen und das deutsche Stadtpfeifer Repertoire kommen noch 1 oder 2 Zinken und eine weitere Posaune oder ein Bass-Dulzian dazu.
