14/15 February 2026
Workshop with Ibrahim Aziz.
What could be more English than the viol consort repertoire from the late 16th and early 17th century?
There will be a variety of repertoire to look at: Pavans & Galliards, Music by John Bull, William Byrd and Thomas Tallis, the Dow partbooks and the Music by John Jenkins.
All our viols are copied after Henry Jaye models and this weekend we'll play on these instruments:
1. Treble 40cm... 2. Treble 43cm (Nürnberg Museum 1629)...3. Tenor 60cm...4. Tenor 63,5cm (Paris Museum 1624)...5. Bass 76cm (Division Viol Collection Dietrich Kessler 1619)...6. Bass 80cm (Consort Bass Collection Christophe Coin 1621)... The instruments are strung in Pure Corde goat gut strings and played with very light bows by Gerhard Landwehr.
