Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts begann die Stimmtonhöhe zu steigen. Mit zwei Flügelstücken spielt dieses Fagott auf a=430-440 Hz. C.A. Grenser war sehr bekannt für seine schönen Blasinstrumente.

Das Grenser hat eine besondere Geschichte. Robin Howell, der 1. Fagott im Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra in San Francisco spielte, kaufte das Original auf einer Europareise. Ein wunderbares Fagott mit dem Charakter eines enger mensurierten barocken Instruments mit einer 5. Klappe für das tiefe Es, aber auf dem klassischen Stimmton von 430 Hz. Wir haben bei Michael Hubbert, einem begnadeten Kunsthandwerker der damals mit dem Flötenbauer Rod Cameron in Mendocino zusammen arbeitete, zwei Kopien in Auftrag gegeben, auch um das Original zu schonen. Sie sind fantastisch. Ich habe die meisten Mozart Opern auf diesem Instrument gespielt und der zweite Flügel bringt mich auch auf moderne Stimmtonhöhe.
